May I ask what kind of build-up the Nighthawk was intended for(ie specs, street/strip, drag/roadRace)? Are my eyes blurry or is that an Unorthodox crank pully on that motor???

The Nighthawk motor will be thrown in a CRX that weighs about 1600 lbs!!! Jim picked up the front half of the CRX like it weighed nothing
Drag strip only.
That's all I know about that "little" motor hehe...

I assume the engine is balanced because of the crank pulley. I my self am kinda scared of them from all of the horror stories I've heard of using light weight crank pulleys. I dont' doubt Jims skills, anyways it looks great!

WOW, today I decided to put my resonator in my Tanabe exhaust so I could listen for any "engine" sounds that I was possible missing before. This engine purs like a kitten at 5,000 rpms!!

Of course it purrs like a kitten !!! You didn't bring your car to me for my charming personality and dashing good looks did you ?!?
heheh
About the Nighthawk...
This project was built for two reasons: First, to build a car with a total budget of only $6000.00 (not including my donated time) and to KICK ASS at the local street-race scene. The truth is I will never pilot the car myself down at the street fights because I do not want to condone this behavior... however, I do want people in my local area to do more business with me, so my work must be exploited and I cannot think of a better place to hit my target audience.
The chassis is a 3G CRX DX that has been totally stripped inside and out. No A/C. I have created a new chassis harness from a '89 CRX Si... and removed EVERY wire that was un-necessary (A/C fan, heater circuit, door chimes, seat belt plug, dome light, cargo light, rear defroster, stereo and fuel pump) I have installed a Kirk Racing 6-point roll cage and a twelve gallon aluminum fuel cell in the cargo area. The dash shell will remain inside the car, however, a 5" tach, volt meter, coolant temp, and oil pressure gauges will reside where the original cluster previously lived. The only interior panels that will remain is the door panels because it just looks like shit without them. Suspension mods include a complete Energy Suspension poly kit, Tokico HP struts, Suspension Techniques rear drop springs, an '88 Integra rear axle with disc brakes and larger sway bar, Power Stop cross-drilled rotors at all four corners with Axis pads, and a set of 15" Kosei K1's with P205/45VR15 Nitto 555R Drag Radials.
Now, for the Powerplant...
'96 B18C1 block bored to 84mm
Benson Ductile Iron sleeves
JE 12.5:1 custom pistons
Crower 4340 Chromemoly steel rods
Knife edged crank
ACL bearings
Complete balance/blueprint job
Unorthodox race crank pulley
Type "R" oil pump with ProDrive internals
Type "R" water pump
'99 B16A2 head
BCE street/strip port and polish treatment
Ferrea .5mm oversized severe duty valves
Crower double valve spring set
Crower Titanium retainers
OE Type "R" lost-motion assemblies
Crower "Beast" camshafts
Fidanza adjustable cam gears
Skunk2 Intake manifold
Transmission is a stock JDM YS1 with LSD transferring power through an ACT Extreme Pressure Plate and 6-puck disk and Fidanza aluminum flywheel.
Engine management will be handled by a Hondata 2d.
I expect the wheel HP figures to be around 210... which should put this car in the low 12's... maybe even the high 11's.
It will be street legal, have all necessary running lights (including turn signals) and a horn. It has a valid tag and title/registration.
Any more questions ???

Sorry for Off Topic: Thanks a bunch for the info JRCivic. Now I realize the purpose of the Nighthawk, and it looks like a pretty extreme project. It would take me a couple of YEARS practice and a whole lot more skillz before I would ever come close to building up a car like that. From the rod bearings to the shell and suspension, I bet you did 101% of the labor involved to getting that car finished? Nice Job! How did you manage to put a fully built and sleeved motor with all the other parts together with only $6000 budget? Did the $6000 include the cost of the car and besides the rear axels, was every other part new from the manufactures? Thanks

Update on the motor: Today I took her to 6,000 rpms for the first time! The powerband seems enormous and I haven't even hit boost yet!
